Diversity and Inclusion in the Learning Environment

Program Objective: This session will build a broad awareness of diversity and inclusion as an important foundational step for trainers, facilitators, leaders and human resource practitioners. We will explore the business definition of diversity and inclusion and the business implications of organizational diversity.

Learning Objectives: Participants will:

  •  learn and understand the strategic business imperatives of diversity to include 5 converging trends impacting diversity in organizations today as well as human capital and talent management,
  •  explore their "frame of reference" and how it impacts their and others behaviors,
  •  be shown perceptual filters and their impact on behavior, teamwork and customer service, and
  •  learn how to move past perceptual filters that may be harmful in the workplace and marketplace.

Credentials: Kelly thayer is a Senior Consultant and Facilitator specializing in diversity and inclusion, cross-cultural communication, equal employment opportunity, compliance and personnel management.

Kelly has lived and worked in Korea, Italy, Germany, Okinawa, Canada and South Africa and has dedicated her life to ensuring individuals are treated with respect and dignity. She works with organizations to make them Employer of Choice by designing, developing and facilitating training to create environments where individuals can do their best work and are valued by the contributions each brings to the workplace. She has worked with many organizations such as Harris Corporation, Walt Disney World, Verizon Wireless, Department of Homeland Security and the South African Defence Force.

Kelly has written numerous organizational policies on sexual harassment prevention, affirmative action, diversity and discrimination. She serves as Vice President of the Fair Housing Continuum, Inc and has been on the executive board of the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute Foundation. She is a member of the Society of Human Resources Managers and has an MA in Human Resources Development from Webster University
